Making a Referral (Professionals)

What to you do if you suspect abuse or are experiencing abuse?

All staff have a Duty of Care towards people they support / care for and are responsible for reporting immediately any suspected or actual abuse. Where a work colleague may be involved in the allergation staff often find it difficult to report. The organisations' own Whistleblowing Policy will provide protection against reprisals but can not promise absolute confidentiality. Please see your own organisations' policy for further information.

All staff and volunteers must ensure the person is safe and contact their line manager as soon as possible. If it is an emergency situation and out of hours, use your emergency contact procedures. If you are unable to contact anyone out of hours please call the Emergency Duty Team who will advice on the appropriate course of action. Tel: 0113 2409536

Your line manager will follow your own agencies internal policy and guideance which should reflect the Leeds Multi-Agency Safeguarding Adults Procedures.

Your line manager should make a Safeguarding Adults Referral through the Contact Centre. Please state when calling you wish to make a Safeguarding Adults Referral. Tel: 0845 125 4113

More information can be found in the 'Multi-Agency Policy, Procedure and Practice Guidlines.
