The ADASS 'Safeguarding Adults' publication

The ADASS has published a national framework of standards for good practice and outcomes in adult protection work (October 2005). This has been developed by those working in adult protection around the country to update the guidance provided through 'No Secrets' and brings together a set of standards which are supported by good practice examples.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005

The Mental Capacity Act was introduced in 2007 and helps people who are unable to make decisions for themselves, (lacking capacity). The Act makes important changes to ways in which decisions can be made on behalf of other people and introduces a new offence of ill treatment or neglect of a person who lacks capacity.
